Quiet Down Cobwebs

After publishing that first awkward post, I decided I should explain the name of this blog.

When I was growing up, my mom had this needlepoint that hung above the upright piano. I'm not sure who made it. Certainly my mom made her fair share of needlepoint projects (including my Christmas stocking), but I don't believe she made this one.

It had a woman with her hair in a bun. She was sitting in a rocking chair (much like our big wooden rocking chair that sat very near to the upright piano) and holding a baby.

The text read:

Cooking and cleaning can wait til tomorrow
For babies grow up, we've learned to our sorrow
So quiet down cobwebs
Dust go to sleep
I'm rocking my baby
And babies don't keep

For some reason I'd always focus on that while I was supposed to be practicing the piano. I'd look up, trying to stall for time (practice had to last 30 minutes!) and just read and re-read that needlepoint.

Now that we have Phoebe in our lives, I read and re-read that needlepoint in my mind all day long.

When you come to our house, I hope you are distracted enough by the beautiful baby to not notice the cobwebs and dust.
