Monavie? Monanightmare

When I make a commitment to do something, such as posting every day in a month, I am pretty dang obsessive about making sure it happens. I hate reneging on my word. I mean, I really hate it.

So you can imagine how upset I am that I couldn't even manage to post every day in FEBRUARY! THE SHORTEST MONTH! I mean, really! And it's not even LEAP YEAR for God's sake.

My reason?

Monavie
.

My mom got 2 bottles of Monavie Active from a client of hers and I've heard good things about the acai fruit and all that stuff and have tried variations of the theme before (Noni juice or whatever, etc.), so when she gave me 2 ounces of it yesterday morning before breakfast I thought "Okay, why not?".

I will tell you why not:

The taste? Bitter and awful. It definitely needs vodka.

The after-effect? Horrible, painful gas.

Not just for me: For Phoebe, too, as she got all those "micronutrients" or whatever via breastmilk.

So I was a bloated gassy mess all day yesterday through this morning, and the poor baby was, too. Although, unfortunately, she could not have a glass of wine to move things along (as it were).

I was miserable. Absolutely freaking miserable.

And before I went to bed last night I said "Crap, I forgot to blog!" and Geoff looked at me and said "It's okay, you don't need to do it."

And I felt really good about him "freeing" me up to NOT do it.

So I didn't.

And the world didn't stop.

While perusing Monavie's website, I noticed it has THIS to say about pregnant or breastfeeding women taking the "Active" form of the stuff, which is what my mom had used to poison me yesterday:

The MonaVie Active formula is extremely safe; however, MonaVie Active juice contains glucosamine hydrochloride and esterified fatty acids, which have not been tested in these types of individuals. It is MonaVie's recommendation that children under the age of 12, pregnant women, and women who are nursing should not consume MonaVie Active juice or Gel. If further information is required, please consult with your physician.

Thank you for the notice.

I won't be making that mistake again.

Fortunately for the digestive systems of our entire family, my mom and I whipped up a country breakfast of biscuits and gravy, sausage patties, bacon, eggs and hash browns this morning. I was STARVING because I wasn't able to eat much all day yesterday thanks to severe painful bloating.

My digestive system feels SO MUCH BETTER NOW! My body seems to fare a lot better on fried potato and pork products than it does on all natural fruit juices.

And I think I don't have a problem with that.

Tonight? Popcorn, beer and judging everyone at the Oscars. I can't wait.

ok - so i hope you don't mind me posting...i just googled 'monavie and breastfeeding' and your blog came up. coincidentally, i downed 4 ounces of the active earlier this evening, and i fear that i have the beginnings of your nightmare...this bottle was 'donated' to me by someone who's urging me to join the system. he's very pushy, and i'm actually surprised he gave me the 'active' knowing that i am nursing a newborn - i just hope that this stuff is out of my system before she feeds next....
regardless, i think i'm totally turned off of this drink.
cool blog, btw!

I just googled the same thing and this is what came up. I had a similar experience. An EXTREMELY ANNOYING PUSHY "salesman" gave me a bottle of active (knowing I was breastfeeding...nice). I was just lookig to see what it would do to the baby since I drank it. I actually liked the stuff, but have been totally turned off to it because of the man who REFUSES to leave me alone!!!
