Why I Love Geoff (Superbowl Edition)

For the past few years -- as long as we've known each other -- Geoff and I have tried (unsuccessfully) to invite people over to his/our house to watch the Superbowl.

Both of us enjoy entertaining IMMENSELY.  I wish we had an enormous area to entertain so we could have people over all the time.  Unfortunately, we don't, but every now and then our friends brave the Grade or the weird parking situation to come over to our place and enjoy good food (well, at least that's what they tell me).

The problem -- on Superbowl Sundays past -- has not been the quality of the food, but the quality of our television.  See, we have never had a "nice" TV.  We've always gotten by with the 25" from Wal-Mart that worked just fine for us, but no matter how good the food I'm making, nobody wants to watch the Superbowl on a crappy $150 TV.

Nobody.

Usually a few drifters will stop by -- Stillman and Alexis, or at least Stillman and one or two of his sons.  They'll eat chips and we'll chat and they'll go about their business.

This year, however, we were VERY excited to have people over to watch the game on our BRAND NEW 50" Plasma (oh I love it so hard!) with the HD (natch).

Geoff is making wings (his recipe is perfect -- I was downing them last year) and I was planning on making my hot cheese dip, homemade onion dip and shrimp gumbo.

We were looking forward to having friends over.

And then on Thursday night, my throat sorta tickled.  And I knew it was a bad sign when that tickle turned into a full blown cough.

We don't want to risk anyone (or their babies) getting sick, so we're just canceling our plans for Sunday and just going to do the usual: Stay home by ourselves, stuffing our faces with chips and dips, enjoying the company of each other instead of entertaining.

When I told Geoff how disappointed I was about this, he said to me:

"Oh well. More wings for us, I guess."

It's all about perspective, people.
